After we moved from the famous Pahar Ganj to a place called Vinay Nagar, I met a boy, slightly older than me, who was the leader of the group in the area. He’s the one who introduced me to most of the boys—and girls—there. Many of them, like us, were Tamilians. I’ve mentioned before that Delhi and Tamilians were inseparable in those days, and naturally, being the only Tamil school chain in Delhi, we all attended the same school.

One day, while we were playing, we saw a Swamiji-looking person move into this "leader’s" house. Naturally, we were curious. The next day, our friend explained that it was indeed a Swamiji, staying with them for some time.

Slowly, word spread that this Swamiji performed daily prayers to Lord Hanuman and, after evening prayers, would help solve the problems of devotees who came to him. Soon, a small crowd of people started gathering at my friend’s house every day.

To our amazement, our friend told us that when devotees offered bananas for prayers, they would find bite marks on them afterward. The Swamiji claimed these were bite marks from Lord Hanuman himself, a sign that He was accepting the prayers and would help resolve the devotees' issues. Occasionally, small figurines of Lord Hanuman would be found inside the fruits offered for prayers.

Now, to be honest, I personally witnessed the bite marks on the bananas. As for the figurines, I don’t quite remember—it was nearly 66 years ago. This Swamiji became known as "Anjaneya Swamigal," as Anjaneya is another name for Lord Hanuman.

There’s even a true story that made the rounds: after offering prayers, the Swamiji correctly wrote down the present address and whereabouts of a person who had gone missing. His information turned out to be accurate!

What made the whole thing more remarkable was that the Swamiji never collected any money or donations, except for the fruits devotees brought. The host family provided his food.

Having seen with my own eyes his simplicity, his friendliness, and what appeared to be his power, how could I not believe?
