Recliner Reminiscences

This is about yesterday. But "yesterday" in the context of when I’m writing this, not necessarily when I’m posting it. Keep that in mind.
Friendship is a subject that has always fascinated me. But a separate piece on that can come at a more suitable time. So why did this topic suddenly come up? Well, yesterday, after nearly a month, I spoke to an old friend of mine—old in terms of age, as well as the age of our friendship, which dates back to 1968. We had merely seen each other back then—no words exchanged, no interactions. Yet, out of nowhere, a friendship blossomed in a single day, and it has lasted ever since, continuing to this day.
As soon as the call was picked up and greeted with a warm, familiar tone, a wave of happiness coursed through me.
Of course, when elderly citizens chat, health becomes the primary topic of discussion. My friend posed a simple but profound question: "In spite of having clean habits, why are we beset with health issues?" The answer, I believe, can only be found by looking through a spiritual or perhaps philosophical lens.
Both of us were in the right mood, and we time-traveled back to our younger days—reminiscing, enjoying, and reliving the freshness and joy of those times. It’s quite funny when you think about it. We worked together for only about three years, and even then, I was away for at least three months, and he for around nine months. Yet, the friendship grew stronger.
He went on to join a prestigious government service and rose to the very top. With our busy schedules, contact became rare, yet the bond not only remained intact—it deepened.
Now, after retirement, we get to talk to each other whenever we feel like it.
They say marriages are made in heaven.
I say, "Friendships are too."
